Today we have been talking about what our two strengths and two weaknesses are in group work. For my two strengths I chose Leadership and Analytical thinking. I chose leadership because a majority of the time I do a group project I get put as the leader whether I want to to or not. This has made me a good leader because it has allowed me to try different leadership styles such as being the bad guy and telling people what they have to do, to being the guy that tells them to do whatever and take care of the project myself. Different styles work for different people at different times. I chose analytical think as my other strength because I really like to look at things for the big picture and I process the pros and cons of every possible choice which has led me to usually make the right decision for a project. My first weakness was also leadership because it is very easy for me to just give up on people that I know don’t really want to be in the group or work on the project. In my initial opinion they are just wasting everyone’s time and making others stress more. I realize as a leader that it is not the best thing for me to give up on people that makes me a bad leader, what I should do is find a way to help them get engaged with the group or the project so that we both gain something from the project that isn’t stress. My second weakness was effective communication because when I get tired of constantly being let down I get angry and just tell them either that they have to do it or that I'll just take care of it which doesn’t help me or them I should try to talk to them as equals and talk to them about how we can both work together to make sure everything gets done.

For this project I hope that the exhibition really shows the knowledge and skills that we learned from this project. I am tired of our standard exhibitions where we write an essay and make something then we just stand there reading our essay over and over again like a repeating decimal saying the same thing to the same people we read our essay to last time being asked the same questions.
I would like my parents not just to be actually engaged in our exhibition and go home and look more into it and have them think about the exhibition months after. I would like a sociology professor to have his mind blown about how much high school freshmen can learn about a complex topic and have our exhibition impact them enough that they talk to their students about it as to what a good project looks like. To make sure that we are presenting accurate information to our audience we need to have things checked by multiple people including teachers. As well as have possibly a research team that checks to make sure that everything is accurate. For the past two weeks in humanities we have been prototyping potential ideas for our upcoming sociology exhibition. Everyone got into a group of about four people and came up with an idea for what they think that our exhibition should look like. Then last Friday we looked at everybody's ideas and took a vote. The prototype with the most votes was to have a type of maze through the cycle of socialization made by Bobby Harrow along with the 7 categories of socialization Gender, Race, Economic Class, Sexual Orientation, Ability, Religion, and Age. At the exhibition everyone would start in the beginning or when they were born. They would then get in a line if they identified as male or female. They would then go to Family and get in a line based on religion. This would continue on with different parts of the cycle and different categories.
This exhibition is trying to address what happens if we were to change the standard style of exhibition and seeing if it has a positive or negative impact on the students, teachers, and community members. In a way we are breaking the cycle of socialization for exhibitions. For this exhibition I am most excited about working in design and construction. I am excited about these because I want to major in Architectural Engineering and I feel like those two groups are the things that will help build my skills for my future. Reflecting on the last two weeks one suggestion for our groups is to make it groups that work well together and for the most part get along with each other. Just because It is our first Humanities exhibition as a class at a new school |
