Why I chose Animas.
I chose animas for the smaller size. Until the 7th grade I went to private school. My class size was about 12 people from kindergarten until 5th grade. In 6th grade it was only 5. 7th grade year I moved to public school and had a class size of over 300 hundred. This was a huge adjustment for me. I realized that teachers didn’t have the time to really look at our work and that I didn’t even need to pay attention. I got by that year with straight A’s and very little new knowledge. At the end of the year my family started talking about moving to Durango for several reasons the main one was for me to get a better education and to keep me out of trouble. We started looking into schools and found Mountain Middle School my parents signed me up for the lottery in case we did move. Months went by and we had pretty much decided that we weren’t going to move. Then my mom got an email that if I wanted to go to mountain I could. My parents told me if I wanted to we could move so that I could get a better education. I didn’t really know what project based learning meant so I went and shadowed within the next couple days and fell in love with it. The next year it came up to what school I wanted to go to. It was really a no brainer for me I loved project based learning and heard that the student teacher relationships were amazing which I loved in my elementary school years. I also knew that with good student teacher relationships my teachers would push me to do more than just the average. All of these things led me to choose Animas and it is probably the best decision I have made in my life.
